Octet for Woodwinds, Brass and Tuba

Music is not black and white
despite staff, clef, notes and a
key’s signature on paper

Proof is in the pale yellow piccolo
corn silk flute and snowflake fife
orange clarinet, saxophone sweet as honeydew
claret oboe and English horn like mulberries
cobalt French horn
and bassoon, lavender and grape.

There is chocolate in the tuba.

Somewhere between analog score
and applause
hang sound and silence and rhythm
weaving a tapestry feast
for the blind.
